How much time and space do you make for your writing? If you are like me, you struggle to devote time to your craft. Even now, as an MFA student, I find myself focusing on other things – other duties. When I started this blog in August of 2007, I didn’t like calling myself a writer. I don’t know that I still do. I tell people I am a teacher first, typically. As I move through my MFA program, I am starting to see myself more as a professional and writing as one of my callings (along with art).
Even after five years of blogging, I am still building my writerly habit. I am still working towards honoring my work and recognizing myself in the process. Though I’ve made improvements, I still have a ways to go. I invite you to come with me and contemplate your own creative practices. What are you dedicating your life to now? Is it what you really want or are you following somebody else’s plan? Are you operating out of joy and passion or out of fear?
